Step by step

  1. Use a wired Ethernet cable if you can. It beats Wi-Fi for gaming.
  2. On Wi-Fi, move closer to the router and use the 5 GHz or 6 GHz band.
  3. Stop downloads and streams on other devices while playing.
  4. Restart the modem and router (unplug 30 seconds).
  5. Run the console's network test or a speed test and look at ping, jitter and packet loss.
  6. Check NAT type. If it's Strict, turn on UPnP in the router settings (usually on by default).
